One vehicle and multiple operations: ADOR’s switcher locomotive (railway shunter) is a multi-purpose vehicle designed to meet all railway operational demands at once.

Switcher locomotive, also known as a railway shunter or shunting locomotive, is an extremely versatile vehicle engineered to replace multiple railway vehicles with one integrated operational platform. This multi-purpose vehicle is designed to act as a rail shunter, crew speeder, inspection vehicle, infrastructure and maintenance machine, track cleaning, construction support equipment, tower locomotive, and rescue or recovery vehicle all at once.

After deploying the rail shunter (switcher locomotive) from the rail yard or depot, board the vehicle with the required tools, inspection systems, or operational equipment.
The railroad shunter transports both crew and equipment directly to the designated railway worksite.
Once on site, the operator uses the rail shunter to move railcars, organize wagons, position maintenance consists, or support rail logistics.
The shunting locomotive can immediately support inspection, maintenance, construction, cleaning, or recovery activities without requiring additional vehicles.
Quickly reposition the vehicle between multiple work areas, enabling continuous railway operations with minimal downtime between assignments.

We custom-designed three switcher locomotives (railway shunters) as multi-purpose vehicles from scratch for Translink to meet their requirements for shunting locomotive, swing loader, and excavator all in one. Our special design offers them all-in-one vehicles that not only reduce the costs of providing several machines each for an operational purpose but also ensure the project’s requirements are addressed.
Yes. ADOR Tech’s switcher locomotive is completely customizable to provide optimized operations based on the project’s requirements.
Railway shunter is built to integrate seamlessly with the project’s infrastructure, ensuring smooth interoperability with data flow.
Industrial switcher locomotive is provided in different costs based on its customizability range, design, and added options.
Railway shunter, also known as a switcher locomotive or shunting locomotive, plays a crucial role in railway maintenance and operations, engineered to tackle challenging tasks and proceed with the maintenance workflow. Railroad shunter is a super-efficient vehicle primarily used to transport out-of-service trains, wagons, and maintenance equipment smoothly and straightforwardly within rail yards, depots, and even railway networks. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, most of them operate sophisticated and innovative workflows, including more flexibility, automation, and other efficient capabilities.
ADOR Tech’s switcher locomotive (rail shunter) incorporates a closed-circuit hydrostatic transmission system with Dynamic Torque Control (DTC), enabling smooth acceleration, optimized traction, and precise operational control during both railway operational and maintenance activities. This advanced drivetrain technology improves maneuverability while reducing drivetrain stress and mechanical wear.
Unlike conventional industrial switcher locomotives designed for a single function, ADOR Tech’s multi-purpose railway shunter maintains stable and efficient performance across several operational roles. Whether functioning as a shunting locomotive, maintenance vehicle, or crew speeder, the system delivers reliable traction performance and operational flexibility under varying railway conditions.
The OM181 and OM191 models of ADOR Tech’s switcher locomotives are engineered to support demanding multi-purpose railway operations with scalable power and configurable platform designs. The OM181 series provides up to 350–375 kW (470–500 hp), while the OM191 delivers up to 595 kW (800 hp) for high-capacity operational requirements. All models support speeds up to 90 km/h (56 mph) and are fully customizable for project-specific applications. They can be designed from scratch based on the project’s requirements and conditions to maximize efficiency and operations.
The platforms feature independent double-drive axle systems, reinforced tubular frames, spacious operator cabins, and modular integration capabilities for cranes, maintenance systems, inspection equipment, rescue modules, and weed control systems. This allows a single vehicle platform to replace multiple specialized railway machines while maintaining high operational efficiency and reliability.
Railway shunter is the best solution in order to reduce equipment costs and fleet complexity. This multi-purpose switcher locomotive addresses these challenges by consolidating several operational functions into one adaptable rail platform capable of performing switching, transportation, maintenance, inspection, and support activities.
This integrated solution reduces the need for separate specialized machines, minimizing maintenance requirements, transportation logistics, and operational downtime. By improving fleet versatility and asset utilization, operators can achieve more efficient railway operations with lower overall lifecycle costs.
