What Is Eddy Current Testing & How Does It Work?

Eddy current testing is non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to inspect railway components. By using a coil with an alternative current (AC), a magnetic field is generated near the railway component. Interacting the magnetic field with the conductive metal of railway components induces circular eddy currents withing the rail, detecting the surface defects that are not visible with naked eyes. Using eddy current testing for crack detection and inspection of railway components can significantly prevent huge costs of repairs.

Eddy Current Testing Equipment for Rail Surface Crack Detection

Eddy-current testing is one of the most reliable and accurate methods in railway inspection and maintenance. It is typically used to inspect rail surface and sub-surface, welded joints, track switches, gauges, and wheelsets to detect corrosion, cracks, bullet holes, and discontinuities in their materials. Reliable eddy current testing equipment can not only detect surface flaws efficiently but also can be used in predictive maintenance by identifying early cracks.

ADOR Tech’s eddy current testing system is provided in four main models. Double-rail eddy current testing flaw detector is a trolley-based system that inspects both rail tracks simultaneously. Single-rail eddy current testing machine is another trolley-based system that inspects one single rail track by moving forward and backward. Portable eddy current testing equipment is a mobile, lightweight device used to inspect railway components. High-speed eddy current testing inspector is a system integrated into a railway vehicle to inspect rail tracks at high speeds.

Real-Time Reports & Data Analysis: Meet Our Eddy Current Testing System
