Turbidity Curtain FAQs

What Is the Difference Between Standard and Premium Silt Curtains?

Standard silt curtain is designed with basic EPS-filled floats while Premium floating silt barrier is equipped with EPS-filled floats with higher density, operate better in cases where heavy-duty containment is required.

What Are the Green Turbidity Curtain Floats Filled With?

Green sediment control curtain is innovatively designed with EPS-free floats, which are filled with air, offering 100% sustainability and minimum environmental footprint.

Are Turbidity Curtains Reusable?

Yes. Premium and Green silt curtain models are completely reusable, enabling them to be stored when they are not useful anymore and reinstall in demanding conditions.

How are Floating Silt Curtain Panels Connected Together?

All models of sediment curtain are engineered with “Quick No-Gap” panels, ensuring maximum containment with no leakage.

Turbidity Curtains for Marine Sediment Control

Turbidity curtain, also known as silt curtain or sediment control curtain, is a barrier designed with a floating device and a curtain underneath, containing sediment and turbidity on the water and preventing them from spreading out. This solution is typically used in coastal protection and erosion control, or where marine construction and dredging projects are ongoing. By intercepting and settling out particles in the water column, marine silt curtain helps maintain water clarity, reduce turbidity, and prevent contamination of ecosystems downstream.

Why Use Silt Curtains for Dredging and Marine Construction?

Turbidity curtains are the best solutions for sediment control in marinas and using them is necessary. Most coastal and freshwater construction projects must comply with environmental standards for using a sediment control curtain in construction sites. Beyond the regulations and standards, suspended sediments can smother aquatic habitats, damage coral reefs, and block sunlight from aquatic vegetation. This is when silt curtains can reduce these risks efficiently.

Types of Sediment Control Curtain: From Type I to Type IV

Marine turbidity curtain is globally provided in four types. Type I is the most basic level, designing with small floating units and thin curtain underneath. This type of floating silt barrier is typically used in low-tidal or calm waters. Type II is slightly stronger than Type I, offering slightly bigger size floats and thicker curtains. Type II marine turbidity curtain is mostly used in waters with low to medium tidal and wave range. Type III sediment curtain is designed with bigger floats and thicker curtains rather than Type II, offering better performance in medium to high tidal flow waters with more sediment volume. Type IV is the last and most heavy-duty type of silt curtains, equipped with large floats and thick curtains underneath to operate efficiently in high tidal flow waters with high sediment volume.

Standard Vs. Premium Vs. Green: Which One Is Better?

Standard turbidity curtain is the most basic model of turbidity curtains, including float units filled with EPS foam and PVC cover for high durability in environmental conditions. Because of its basic design, standard silt curtain is a budget-friendly solution with high performance in low tidal to calm waters where the volume of sediment is not considerable. Premium floating silt barrier is designed with high-density EPS-filled float units covered by PVC (same as Standard model). Its higher density EPS foam enables better performance in medium to high tidal waters and higher volume of sediment containment requirement. Green sediment control curtain, on the other hand, is an innovative design of silt curtains, equipped with air-filled float units covered by PVC sheets. This model of marine turbidity curtain meets sustainability, high-performance, and cost-effectiveness all in one.
